When conducting research, you may need to look up important chemical information or safety requirements. The following resources and references may help:
UChicago forms and information sheets
Chemical Storage and Segregation
Labeling Hazardous Waste Containers
Laboratory-Specific Training Record Log Sheet
Overnight/Unattended Reaction Form
Research Personnel Orientation Checklist
External references and resources
Environmental Protection Agency
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards
Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration
Occupational Health and Safety Administration
Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Emergency Response Guidebook, U.S. Department of Transportation
Prudent Practices in the Laboratory, National Academies Press
This is the standard text detailing how chemicals should be handles, stored, secured, and disposed in the laboratory.
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
Safety Data Sheet Database
Laboratories must have access to safety data sheets for all the chemicals present in their laboratory. The University of Chicago has established an account with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCINFO) Academic Support Program. This collection is accessible only from University of Chicago computers, or computers connected to the University of Chicago VPN.
