Kelly Schoenfelt received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Kelly began her career in academia as Research tech studying cardiac myofilament protein phosphorylation and myosin head orientation in the lab of Professor Peiter de Tombe at the University of Illinois at Chicago and continued working with his lab at Loyola University.

In 2011, Kelly joined the lab of Professor Lev Becker in the Ben May Cancer Center at University of Chicago as a lab tech, manager and safety contact studying macrophages and their role in diabetes, atherosclerosis, cystic fibrosis, and cancer.

Kelly joined the ORS team in August of 2024 as a Lab Safety Specialist in the Biological Sciences Division and is looking forward to helping researchers and getting HAZWOPER certified. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter at the beach, as well as camping and hiking.
