Laboratory Safety Specialist
Kimberly received a Master of Science degree in 2008. In 2011, she took over the safety role at an industry location that worked with infectious disease and did chemical manufacturing. In 2014, she was promoted to the role of biosafety, environmental health, and chemical hygiene manager. She was responsible for all employee training and standard operating procedure creation, including but not limited to chemical hygiene, bloodbourne pathogens, hazardous waste handling, and U.S. Department of Transportation. She created online training modules and offered in-person trainings. Kimberly was also responsible for authoring safety data sheets for products this company sold.
In 2015, she joined the University of Chicago as a lab safety specialist in the Physical Sciences Division and the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (then the Institute of Molecular Engineering). Kimberly works under the Office of Research Safety, the dean of the Physical Sciences Division, and the director of the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering. Kim works directly with the labs in the Physical Sciences Division and Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering laboratory safety program to provide assistance and risk analysis, ensuring a safe environment in which to facilitate research and the pursuit of academic excellence. Kimberly is also leading the efforts for our newly established Joint Research Safety Initiative.
